National Cavy Club Statement
Further to our earlier statements regarding the current COVID-19 pandemic, the National Cavy Club has reviewed and updated its recommendations in regard to cavy shows and meetings in the UK.
It is clear from Government advice that social distancing, at the very least, will be in place for some months to come and that the mass gathering of large numbers of people in close confinement will be one of last restrictions to be relaxed.
We do not believe that it is practicable or safe to hold cavy shows with such measures in place.
As such, the National Cavy Club recommends that all cavy shows and similar events are cancelled for the foreseeable future, until such time as Government advice changes. As previously, the National Cavy Club will be rescinding show support for all affiliated shows until further notice.
These measures will be reviewed regularly and a further statement will be issued in early August, unless matters change in the interim.
Whilst we can not predict the future course of the pandemic or the measures to control it, based on the facts available to date we consider that it is highly unlikely that we will be able to hold any cavy shows this year. To this end, we recommend that clubs take appropriate measures and make necessary arrangements to avoid commitments that might have financial implications.
We understand that this is a very worrying time for cavy fanciers and we would like to reiterate that we will be doing all we can to support our members and our affiliated clubs. We are actively exploring alternative ways we can all engage, albeit by different means, so that we can continue to enjoy our hobby. We are also looking at how we might emerge from this crisis, to ensure we are ready to adapt quickly to what might be a very different landscape and a new normal.
